Foreign Trade Black Athletic Shorts Review: Sport-Casual Five-Point Cut, Tested

A plain polyester mid-thigh short with a drawstring waist and slight stretch. Our black sample matched the QC photos and the listed cut; no flat measurements are published, so request waist and inseam figures before ordering.

Editor verdict
Editor verdictA cheap, neatly finished polyester mid-thigh short that does what the listing claims. Our black sample matched the QC photos and survived a cold wash, but unpublished measurements and no buyer reviews make sizing the real risk.
What works
  • Light polyester with slight stretch, quick to dry in summer heat
  • Straight five-point cut sits above the knee with room to move
  • Clean stitching, untwisted drawstring and accurate print placement on our sample
Watch-outs
  • No waist, hip or inseam figures published on the listing
  • No buyer reviews to check fit or durability against
  • Long-term fade and seam strength not established by one wash and three days of wear

Buyers after a plain warm-weather short in sizes M to 3XL, who will ask CNFans for flat measurements and inspect QC photos before shipping.

Anyone who needs published sizing charts, documented durability, or confirmed fit in 2XL and 3XL before spending. A short with a real measurement table serves that buyer better.

What we ordered

We ordered one pair of the Foreign Trade black athletic shorts in sport-casual style, SKU 7720570468, through our CNFans account at $7.46, down from a listed $8.51. The parcel arrived in the black colourway: script lettering across the front of one leg and small patch details on the lower legs, exactly as the listing images show. As with every product review on this desk, we logged the shipping label, weighed the box on arrival, and put the contents next to the warehouse QC photographs we had approved before dispatch.

The listing positions these as a factory-source summer short — polyester main fabric, five-point (mid-thigh) length, straight leg, slight stretch, sizes M to 3XL, and four colourways: white, black, orange and green.

How we tested

  • Compared the shorts against the approved QC photos: print placement, patch position on both legs, drawstring ends and the waistband finish.
  • Taped the sample flat on the measuring table — waist relaxed and stretched, rise, inseam and leg opening at the hem.
  • Wash-tested once in cold water on a gentle cycle, then air-dried rather than tumble-dried.
  • Wear-tested for three days of summer commuting and casual wear around Rotterdam, including a full day on a bicycle.

Our tape numbers are sample-specific. Because the listing publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures, we treat those measurements as a check on the size we received rather than as a sizing chart you can rely on.

Materials and construction

The listing names polyester as the main fabric with slight stretch. Our sample behaves the way that description suggests: a thin, smooth hand with a little mechanical give across the seat and thigh rather than a knit-like stretch that snaps back hard. For warm weather that is a plus — the fabric is light, dries fast after a wash, and does not hold much heat.

Construction is simple and neat for the price. The waistband stitching runs straight, the drawstring feeds without twisting, and the hem is a clean single fold. The script lettering and the leg patches are surface-applied rather than embroidered, so they are the parts to inspect in QC before shipping: off-centre print placement is the most likely factory slip on a listing this cheap.

The five-point cut in practice

Five-point is the sizing shorthand for shorts that end around mid-thigh, above the knee. Paired with a straight leg, the shape sits closer to a sport-casual short than to a running or compression short — there is room at the leg opening for a normal stride and for sitting on a bike saddle without the hem riding up.

Black is the colourway named in the product title, and it is the most forgiving of the four: the lettering and patches stay readable without competing with a neutral outfit. A plain T-shirt and low-profile sneakers is the obvious pairing; a hoodie over the top moves it into the layered street look the listing's category implies.

Wash and wear notes

After one cold wash and an air-dry, the black stayed deep with no obvious bleeding onto the white towel we dried it against, and the print did not crack or lift. That is the limit of what a single cycle can tell you: we cannot speak to fade after ten washes, and we would keep these out of a hot dryer regardless.

Across three days of wear the shorts held their shape at the waist and seat, the drawstring knot stayed put, and we saw no pilling or seam fraying in that window. Long-term durability and colour retention remain unverified.

Value at $7.46

At this price the shorts sit in fast-fashion territory, and the build is better than the price implies: straight stitching, a clean hem and a fabric that suits the season it was designed for. The weakness is documentation, not construction. Nothing in the listing tells you how a size M actually measures, so the money you save up front can be spent twice if you guess your size wrong.

A $7.46 short is cheap enough to gamble on and cheap enough to replace — but only if you get the size right the first time.

What we could not verify

  • No buyer reviews appear on the source listing, so there is no independent evidence on fit, feel or durability to compare our sample against.
  • The feature block gives conflicting launch seasons, listing both 2025 summer and 2024 summer. Treat the season and year fields as unreliable.
  • The listed weight of 0.00 kg tells you nothing about shipping cost; have your agent weigh the item at the warehouse.
  • Colour accuracy beyond black is untested. The title names black specifically, so confirm your colour choice in writing.
  • Fit on 2XL and 3XL is unverified — we only taped the size we ordered.

How to order it

  1. Send the Weidian item link, SKU 7720570468, to CNFans and select the black colourway from the listing options rather than assuming it from the title.
  2. Ask the agent to request flat waist, hip and inseam measurements for your size from the seller before you pay, then compare them with a pair of shorts you already own.
  3. Approve the warehouse QC photos only after checking print placement, patch position on both legs and the drawstring. Request a re-shoot or exchange if the lettering sits off-centre.
  4. Skip the tumble dryer. Cold wash, air dry, and the print has the best chance of lasting.
Insight
What are these shorts made from, and how does the fabric feel?

Polyester is named as the main fabric, with slight stretch noted. Our sample is light and smooth with modest give — closer to a plain athletic short than a stretch knit — and it air-dried quickly after a cold wash.

How does the five-point cut actually fit?

Five-point refers to a mid-thigh length that ends above the knee. With the straight leg shape, the hem sits away from the thigh, so it works for walking, cycling and sitting without riding up.

What can't we confirm before you order?

Fit beyond the size we sampled, colour accuracy on white, orange and green, and long-term durability. The listing publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures and no buyer reviews, so request flat measurements through your CNFans agent.

Got the black pair in a size L last month. Polyester feels a little slick but not cheap, and the slight stretch makes them fine for the gym or just lounging. Mid-thigh cut is accurate to the pics. Only thing is I wish they posted flat measurements. I went with my usual size and it worked, but if you're between sizes just message the seller for the waist number first.

Got these in black last month. Polyester feel is a bit slick but honestly fine for gym or just walking around. The five-point cut ends mid-thigh which is what I wanted, no awkward bunching. Drawstring works ok though I wish it was a bit thicker. Slight stretch helps when squatting. One thing - I ordered my usual size and it fit, but definitely measure your waist first because there are no flat measurements on the page. I went back and forth before pulling the trigger.

Picked these up in black, size L. The five-point cut hits just above mid-thigh on me (5'10"), which is what I wanted. Polyester has a little stretch, not stiff like some cheap gym shorts. Drawstring actually holds. Only knock is no posted measurements, so I guessed on sizing and got lucky. Ask the seller for waist and inseam numbers first, seriously.

Got these in black, size L. Fit is true five-point cut, sits mid-thigh like the pics. Polyester is thin but has a bit of give, drawstring works fine. Only thing is no waist measurement listed so I gambled and got lucky. If you're between sizes just ask the seller first.

Grabbed these in black, size L. The five-point cut hits mid-thigh on me and the polyester has a little give, not stiff like I expected. Drawstring waist works but I'd still ask for the waist measurement before ordering since nothing is listed. No pilling after two washes so far.
